Native American Public Telecommunications Multimedia Fellowships - Lincoln, NE
Native American Public Telecommunications (NAPT) is pleased to offer two journalism fellowships to undergraduate or graduate students. The application deadline is March 15, 2010. With major funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the purpose of the fellowships is to increase the quantity and quality of multimedia reporting on Native news available to Public Radio and Television audiences, and other news outlets. Kevin Abourezk (Oglala), a reporter at the Lincoln Journal Star (Lee Enterprises), will provide direction and mentorship for the fellows. Fellows may office in Lincoln, Nebraska, if desired—at either the newspaper or the NAPT headquarters. If the Lincoln location is not possible, we will work with finalists in finding a local office partner in their present location.
The fellowship is for ten weeks with a $6,000 stipend and a $4,000 travel/expense budget. Attendance at the Native Nations Media Conference, July 21-24 in St. Paul, Minnesota, is mandatory.
Each fellow will have a different focus:
1. Report on the recipients of the Honoring Nations program, a national awards program that identifies, celebrates and shares outstanding examples of tribal governance. The program is administered by the Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. More than 100 projects have been selected since 1999.
Or
2. Report on Tribes and Tribal organizations and their individual use of technology. How are Tribal gamers, artists or musicians using the technology? From health services to telephone and broadband connectivity, explore innovation and best practices, as well as needs in Indian Country.
